The Workplace Safety Strategy provides a bold vision and roadmap for workers, employers, safety associations, industry partners and government related to workplace health and safety.
The 5-year plan (2013-2017), developed by the WCB, the Nova Scotia Department of Labour and Advanced Education (LAE) and based on extensive stakeholder consultation, establishes strong goals in 6 priority areas to support its long-term vision: to make Nova Scotia the safest place to work in Canada. It’s a strategy for all Nova Scotians, and it calls for real action from workers and employers in all workplaces.
The WCB is a partner in many of the initiatives being implemented in support of the strategy. Some progress highlights to date include:
- Bringing together more than 175 safety leaders from across Nova Scotia to share best practice and develop collaborative relationships – all with the goal in mind to champion and advocate safe workplaces.
- Hiring a Workplace Consultant at the WCB dedicated to supporting the injury prevention and return-to-work programs of small and medium businesses.
- Embarking on a pilot project with a local school board and the WCB to adapt health and safety resources for students with special needs who are going on short-term work placements.
